Salam.
Etiqa Takaful Berhad (ETB - formerly known as Takaful Nasional Sdn Berhad), one of the entities under the joint venture Mayban Fortis (owned by Maybank, the largest Malaysian Bank and Fortis, a large Dutch Belgian bank insurance company), was set up in January 2007 using the opportunities that were presented by the Malaysian Government and Bank Negara Malaysia in their initiative "Malaysia as the International Islamic Financial Centre".
This initiative gives Islamic banks and Takaful operators the opportunity to venture into offshore markets and export the Islamic knowledge and expertise readily available in Malaysia. These offshore units (ICBU) can be set up anywhere in Malaysia and are not restricted to Labuan (the offshore island of Malaysia).
